This book is informative but playful -- the content is well written, incredibly info-packed about fungi, vibrantly illustrated, and includes some recipes and suggestions I wouldn't have otherwise thought of. It's a great companion to Ashley's latest cookbook (Rooted Kitchen). I bought this book for myself and also bought a copy for my sister... will certainly be buying more. Everyone who sees it can't help but grab it and begin flipping though it! Highly recommend.

This is a beautifully illustrated, fun to read mushroom book with interesting information. I enjoyed the read and learning more about mushrooms including tidbits on their use in cooking, medicinal value, time of year to find the mushrooms and more.

I bought this book because my wife likes to forage, and I was impressed with the artwork. My wife loves this book, and so does our 3 year old granddaughter.

My sister has really gotten addicted to mushroom foraging. I love mushrooms, but I’m careful about which ones I ingest. I found this book which is so well illustrated and informative so I thought it would make a perfect gift for my sister. I know she will appreciate it and in the process learn a lot!
It’s a fun book to read, and I do appreciate the artworks the author put her time into. However, because I primary seek mushroom ID info (including how to distinguish between real one and look alike) and foliage tips, this book is a bit on the lighter side. Also the handing painting artworks, the beautiful and masterly done, are not as helpful in terms of ID the mushroom compared to real pictures.

Just got it, so haven't finished reading it but I can't wait. Looks interesting and it's sooo adorable! I absolutely love the artwork in it as well as the notes. It definitely seems very thorough.
As a mushroom lover I cannot get over how beautifully this book is illustrated - the artist has wonderfully captured the unique characteristics of each species. The descriptions are helpful and fun, making this a lovely book for novice and enthusiast alike.

The beauty of this book is not just in the gorgeous illustrations, but in the personal connection of the author to her subjects, the mushrooms, the planet we live and depend on, and more importantly to the readers. It is not a highly technical nor preachy book, but an invitation by the author to join her in sharing the joy and wonder of the natural world through inspection and introspection. It isn't just the mushrooms that inspire admiration in this book, but the love of discovering where they live and what they do for the greater good of all of us.
This book is as bright and beautiful as the author herself! I have all of Ashley's books and you can see the research, time, expertise and joy she pours into every page. This book is such a lovely compilation of illustrations and incredible information, all about fungi...truly, this book is a delight to explore. I have enjoyed it with my morning coffee, and I'm looking forward to gifting it this holiday season to all of my friends!
Ashley Rodriguez is simply a marvelous writer, as anyone who has read any of her three cookbooks knows. Here her writing talents are aimed at the art of foraging and unveiling some of the mystery of mushrooms. For most of us, mushrooms are a source of wonder and unease. We may know of people and certainly have heard of those who have been seriously sickened or even died because of not knowing what is good and what is bad. Plus there is this thing about their network of little filaments growing under our feet, talking to trees, popping up in some of the strangest places. They're a mystery, and kind of a dark one at that. But, that's what Ashley does. The mystery is still there but she makes you want to enter into it, to learn more, to get into the woods, feel the interconnectedness of all things. It's an inspiration, and oh, the wonderful tastes and smells once we overcome our fears. Thank you Ashley.
This book really inspires me to get out there and forage for mushrooms! It's also just gorgeous. I love the illustrations. It's very informative but also personal and connected to the author. Great gift for the mushroom interested I say!
